Cheap Booze

As I’m sure my British readers already know, alcohol prices went up by 6% above the rate inflation in the budget, supposedly to combat binge drinking.

That’s 4p on a pint of beer, 14p on a bottle of wine, and 55p on a bottle of spirits. So, now, I can already hear the binge drinkers thinking to themselves. “Fourteen pence on a bottle of Chardonnay. Clearly I will have to drink more responsibly from now on.”

Now that we've tried Euro style late night drinking (and let's face it, it's failed), it's time to try it the other way. No cheap booze in the shops and the pubs open from only 7pm to 10pm.

As someone who likes an occasional drink I don't understand the British inclination for inebriation. Do people really think that they can't have a good time unless they're legless ?

The legal drinking age should be raised to at least 25 and drinking licences should be introduced.
